The Essentials
Is hypnosis safe?
Absolutely. Hypnosis is a natural, "trance-like" state of focused attention that we all enter daily, like being "lost" in a good book, "zoning out" on a train, or being in a "flow state" while creating. You remain fully conscious and in total control of your thoughts and actions at all times. It is a gentle, collaborative process.
Can I lose control during a session?
This is a common myth! In reality, you are in a state of heightened awareness. You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will. Please think of me as a GPS: I provide the directions, but you are always behind the wheel.
How does Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) work?
Unlike traditional therapy, which may dwell on past traumas, SFH is forward-looking. We focus on what you want to achieve rather than the problem itself. By combining "talking therapy" with the relaxed state of hypnosis, we help your brain find creative solutions and build new, positive neural pathways.
Neurodivergence & Specialised Care
Is your practice neuro-inclusive? Yes. I specialise in working with neurodivergent individuals (ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, Dyslexia, etc.). I understand that traditional "quiet" environments or "eye contact" requirements can be stressful. My approach is flexible:
Sensory Friendly: We can adjust lighting, sound, and movement.
No Pressure: You are welcome to fidget, stim, or look away during our sessions.
Somatic Integration: For those who find it hard to "get out of their head," we use body-based (somatic) tools to help regulate the nervous system safely.
Can hypnosis be used for children? Yes! Children often make the best candidates because of their vivid imaginations and open minds. It can be a very positive experience for helping children manage anxiety, sleep, or confidence. For neurodivergent children, we adapt the language and pace to meet their specific processing style. I usually work with young people aged 10 and older.
What exactly is "Anchoring"? Anchoring is a technique in which we associate a positive emotional state (such as calm or confidence) with a specific physical "trigger," such as touching two fingers together or using a particular word. Because MiroSoma integrates somatic intervention, we ensure these anchors are deeply rooted in your physical sensations, making them easier to "fire" in real-world situations.
What should I expect in a typical 60-90 minute session? Expect a warm welcome and a few smiles! Our time is usually split into two parts:
The Talking Part: We discuss your progress and focus on small, manageable "wins" from your week.
The Hypnosis Part: You get to relax in a comfortable chair (or via screen) while I use guided imagery and metaphors to help your subconscious mind process our goals.
Can I do hypnotherapy myself? Yes, and I encourage it! While working with a therapist provides a fresh perspective and tailored guidance, I will teach you self-hypnosis techniques. This empowers you to manage your own stress and regulation between our sessions.
Risks, Suitability & Policies
What are the potential side effects? Hypnotherapy is very safe, but there are a few things to be aware of:
Emotional Release: Occasionally, a session may trigger a "cathartic" release of bottled-up emotions. This is a healthy part of the healing process, and it happens in a safe, supportive space.
Temporary Disorientation: Rarely, you might feel a bit "floaty" or tired immediately after. My somatic techniques ensure you are properly "grounded" before you leave.
Response Time: Hypnosis is not a magic wand. Results vary based on your receptiveness and the complexity of the issue. Even if hypnosis takes time to "click," you will still benefit from the therapeutic coaching and relaxation techniques.
Who is hypnotherapy NOT suitable for? Hypnotherapy may not be appropriate for individuals experiencing active psychotic symptoms (such as in schizophrenia) or certain severe personality disorders. It is also not suitable if you are currently under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, if you are in active recovery, I would be honoured to work with you.
Do you offer discounts for service workers? Yes. I am deeply committed to supporting those who support our community. I offer a 50% discount for:
Armed Forces personnel (Veterans and Active Duty)
First Responders (Police, Fire, Ambulance)
Aides and Professional Carers
What is your cancellation policy? I value your time and ask that you value mine.
Changes: I require 24 hours' notice for any appointment changes.
Late Cancellations/No-Shows: Cancellations made with less than 12 hours' notice or "no-shows" will incur a 50% charge.
The "Human" Factor: I understand life happens. I am also human and may occasionally need to reschedule. I will always aim to give you as much notice as possible.
